Selena Gomez appears to be considering retirement from the music scene. During a recent appearance on the 'Smartless' podcast, the internationally acclaimed pop sensation hinted at the possibility of stepping back from the music industry after releasing one more album.
At 31 years old, Gomez, renowned for her versatile talents in both acting and singing, expressed a desire to pivot towards a more stable lifestyle. Reflecting on her early years in the industry, she fondly recalled the joy of music and touring, particularly during her time on the popular TV show "Wizards of Waverly Place." However, as she has matured, the artist voiced a longing for stability, stating, “The older I get, the more I’m kind of like, ‘I would like to find something to just settle on.'”
Despite releasing three albums since her solo debut in 2013, with her latest being "Rare" in 2020, Gomez believes there is one more album left in her before transitioning her focus to acting. She shared, “I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting. I am gonna wanna chill because I’m tired.”
Gomez's career has not been without challenges, including a hiatus from touring since her 2016 Revival tour due to mental health struggles related to her lupus diagnosis. In her Apple TV+ documentary, "My Mind and Me," Gomez's former assistant Theresa revealed a poignant moment when the artist expressed a desire not to be alive. Selena subsequently sought treatment for bipolar disorder and has since become a strong advocate for mental health awareness.
In 2022, Gomez spoke at a mental health forum at the White House, utilizing her experiences to contribute to the ongoing conversation around mental health. As she contemplates her future in the entertainment industry, Selena Gomez looks forward to a more settled chapter, aiming to focus on acting following the release of her anticipated final music album.
