Suspected Robbers Surrender After Failed Bank Heist in Dhaka

Three men, suspected to be armed robbers, surrendered to joint forces after entering the Rupali Bank Jinjira branch in Dhaka’s Keraniganj earlier today. The incident, which escalated into a hostage crisis, concluded without any reported injuries, according to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

RAB-10 Media Officer Tapash Karmaker confirmed that the suspects have been detained and taken to the Keraniganj South Police Station. All bank staff members who were held hostage have been released unharmed.

The standoff began around 2:00 PM when the armed men stormed the bank, located in the Chunkutia Pakapul area of South Keraniganj. Locals quickly mobilized, locking the robbers inside and alerting authorities.

In response, multiple teams from RAB, police, and army personnel surrounded the building. Law enforcement worked to negotiate with the suspects while ensuring the safety of the hostages.

Earlier, RAB officials reported that the suspects had sealed the building’s collapsible gate and taken several staffers hostage. Eyewitnesses stated that announcements from a nearby mosque prompted locals to gather outside the bank, adding pressure on the suspects.
